At Rao Nete, in addition to healings with Ayahuasca, we facilitate Traditional Shipibo Plant dietas. The plant dieta is a special type of retreat in which a dietero (dieter) engages in a sacred alliance with the spirit of a plant. A dieta takes the form of a contract, this means that the dieter agrees to diet the plant for a certain amount of time, abstaining from certain types of food, drink, and (sexual) contact. In return, the plant will give its healing power.
By dieting a plant, you infuse its energy with your own thus allowing the plant to help you through the course of your life. This means that depending on the plant you diet, it may help you with more strength, focus and direction in life (chiric sanango). Marusa for instance, helps you with a better connection with your heart and better relations with the people around you. In addition, Shihuahuaco helps you protect yourself against bad energies from others, ie not letting it get to you.
In short, your innate wisdom of what’s going on in a certain situation, or how to best handle a situation is brought up by the plant, bringing it into your consciousness so you may act consciously.
A diet stays with you for life, but you have to stay mindful of it. Much like a friendship with a person that needs attention, lest it wanes.
Even though plants are primarily dieted by healers, you do not have be a healer, or have this aspiration to diet a plant. The plants are open to anyone who, with a sincere heart, calls upon them. After the diet, the plant will stay with you, guiding you through your life.
This is piñon colorado. It is used a purgative for deep cleansing of the stomach. Due to its strength, it is not recommended for beginners. Furthermore, it is used in plant baths or saunas, to help heal and protect.
For this year, we have programmed a series of 3 week dietas. Your journey starts in Pucallpa, where we will pick you up from the hotel. Then we will take a fast boat on the rivier Ucayali to the shipibo community of Paoyan. Along the way you will have a splendid view of the river, the Amazon rainforest and all kinds of birds.
Upon arrival, we’ll be met by maestro Julio and has family and then taken to the retreat center, which is about 15 minutes outside of the community by motokar. Here we will have our lunch, introduction and personal intakes.
The next day, we start the day off with a vomitivo, to prepare your body to receive the plants. At night, we will have our first Ayahuasca ceremony to clean your mind and body and to open the diet.
Now that the diet is opened, you will spend two weeks in isolation in your tambo (hut). Your food and your medicine will be brought to you daily by an english speaking facilitator. In this period, you will be eating very little, but there will be break days in which you won’t take in any plants, and can eat a bit more.
When two weeks have passed, we will take a couple of days rest to recuperate.
In the final week of the dieta, maestro Julio will connect you with your dieta in 4 ceremonies with Ayahuasca. In this week you will receive healing and/or teachings of the plant.
After the final ceremony, we have one day of rest, after which we will undertake the journey back to Pucallpa. Once there, your facilitator will make sure you arrive in your hotel safely.
In the final ceremony, maestro Julio will protect you by placing Arkanas in your energy system and will close the diet. From this point on, you will be in post-dieta in which you will need to maintain the dietary restrictions.
Your physical body and energetic body is now tuned to a different frequency and you will need some time to gradually adapt to your old surroundings. Furthermore, engorging in all forbidden foods and activity after a dieta is seen as a lack of respect and the plant may punish you for it. This is called breaking a diet and can have severe consequences depending on the duration of the dieta and your bond with the plant. You might get sick, or experience severe emotional turmoil or energetic damage.
Dieting a plant is not a frivolous activity. It does not have place as an item on a bucket list. The plants require real commitment in heart, body and soul, and require you to finish what you have started. This means that before you embark on this journey, you should check your intentions and your willingness to see a dieta through, no matter what comes up.
This is a close up of marusa. Marusa is a lovely aromatic plant that can be dieted. She is often used as part of colognes, plant baths or saunas. Her energy is lovely and is great medicine for the heart. Marusa helps to open your heart, and feeling more connected.
